My Name Is Not Angela

I have a bit of a rant/confession. My regular readers know that my name is not Angel. It’s a nickname. I don’t use my real name because of heavy SEO I use on the site. I do not want this site to interfere with my personal life, outside of my profession. Being a freelance graphic designer, you have to watch what you say at all times. I do not mind that my site is linked to my graphic design studio. However, I do tell people that this is my personal space. When Sevenality’s blog becomes fully functional, there will a definite separation between myself blogging professionally and myself blogging personally.

To get back on track, I just have to complain a bit. My name is not Angela. My peers have acknowledged this since a very young age. However, I cannot figure out for the life of me why older adults cannot remember my name. This has dated back as far as I can remember. Teachers, principals, neighbors, and even relatives calling me Angela. By nature, I’ve learned to respond to it, but at times I’d just like for them to get it right. Whenever someone can remember my name correctly, I feel blessed. It’s not a difficult name. It’s easy to pronounce. It was even part of a mini pop-culture phenomenon in the 90s. I’m just going to continue to blame Angela from Boy Meets World (featured in the picture above) for people calling me Angela. It’s okay, because she was pretty awesome. I just want to know why people tend to forget my name? Do I look like an Angela? Do any of you have name frustrations like myself? How do people confuse your name?

I don’t normally get people calling me the wrong name. But, I do get people CONSTANTLY spelling my name wrong, and that drives me absolutely bonkers! Krissy is my nickname; my real name is Kristin, and people just cannot seem to spell it right. Even when it’s written out in front of them. I could rant for hours about this, but I’ll spare you the crazy. :P So I definitely 100% feel for you!

I’d say 50% of the people I meet call me Cory most of the time, regardless of how many times I correct them. I really don’t see how it’s any more feminine than Cody…

At work, I’ll answer to; Cory, Jody, Katie, and Lorie. And I’ve stopped correcting people.

…How could everybody that you’ve ever talked to possibly mess up your name? o_O

Why do you have to see a cardiologist? :/

Sometime in 2007, I was having a bit of heart troubles due to stress. I never got a really clear diagnosis, but apparently I was having arrhythmias. It was pretty much the worst time of my life.

I get called Allison ALL the time and it drives me mad. Everyone who meets me repeats my name as Allison, fair enough it is similar to Alice but Alice sound quite different! I totally understand your pain!

I understand completely. Ok, so nowadays the internet is everyone and having your real name “out there” is not such a scary thing as it once was (late 90′s, early 2000-century). I still don’t feel comfortable giving out my real name to people, partially because it’s very difficult for foreigners to spell or even type. So I use internet nicknames.

Omg, I don’t know why people are so challenged when it comes to names. I could almost understand if the name was something completely off of the wall but names that are clearly spelled out make no sense to me. People have messed up my name since the beginning of time. I just tell them I’m Nikki or Nik to avoid the ignorance so I definitely feel you. I hope your family at least can spell your name. I have one side of relatives that spell my name differently every Christmas on cards.

I understand what you mean. I have an unusual name. I have never met or know anyone in this world that has the same name as mine. My name is often spelled and pronounced wrongly. There are few people that pronounce it well on the first try. It annoys me a lot so I just go by ‘Shen’ now. Even some of my family members that have known me all my life still spell it wrong. How stupid. >.< I share your frustration though. Sometimes I wish my Mom had given me a simple name.

I also understand what you mean, and I have a pretty common name, I think. No one has ever spelled my name right (Kristie), always spelling it every other way under the sun. Including the ever popular C-H-R-I-S-T-Y. Lame.

My boss doesn’t know my name. And I’ve corrected him at least eleventy billion times. He calls me Krystal, as do my co-workers now because they think it’s funny. And like a dork, I respond to it! I’m finished with correcting people now, lol.

My name is Kate and growing up everyone called me Katie, I hated it! You sort of have to grin and bear it though, don’t you?

I can relate… my name is Jenn, but so often I am mistaken for Jess. Or worse yet, Jenny! It’s quite annoying.

Ugh, I have been so out of the loop lately with blogging. I hadn’t even realized you’ve been updating frequently… so now I must catch up lol. People have called me Jasmine although my name is Yasmine…. it’s frustrating. Like seriously, it’s not a hard name to remember, only a mere two syllables.
