Design

I’m really glad Caity chose this word. It’s one of the most important words in my life. I’ve been designing in one way or another for over ten years. I’ve been a designer since the age of nine. I’m constantly thinking of ways to better establish my career. Yes, career, not job. Design is my life. I breathe it, I wear it, I sleep in it. You may not know it or not, but you do as well. There’s some aspect of design in our daily lives, but more importantly, it’s my life. I’m in love with a designer. Someone who has the same passions as I do.  I love it. I could do an entire blog about my life and design, but I guess I’ll cut it short. Design is my life.

Religion

This is one I struggled with. Not physically, but in terms of discussing religion and my life on this blog. I rarely make this blog personal for the amount of readers I receive. I don’t know who is reading my blog, although I really shouldn’t care. Not that this has anything to do with religion! However, this comes at a perfect time. I have been following the beliefs of the Seventh Day Adventist Church for the past five years. On Saturday, I’ll finally be baptized into the church! I was raised Baptist (to an extent) however, I found myself filling void of my own personal beliefs.

I don’t discuss religion on Static-Romance because I don’t have time to argue with people. There’s three things a person can blog about that can cause backlash: race, religion, and politics. I try to avoid two of those, minus race because I will gladly blog about racial issues within ALL nationalities. However, I’ve become weary of arguing with people about religion before I even open my mouth. The daily judgment process I go through just because I state that I am a Christian is ridiculous and tiresome. I will never deny my faith. I will proudly proclaim wherever I may be (see my about me page). I do not hide it, but I simply will not go into great detail in blogging about it. I’m too busy to argue with people. I love everyone. I am not hateful or judgmental. I don’t know where people get these ideas of crazy Bible-thumping Christians; but seriously, some of us a liberal and open-minded to others. I love my religion and I enjoy going to church every week. This is also why you’ll never see me blog on a Saturday, unless I’ve incorrectly dated an auto-post.

Relationship

My relationship with David is crazy. This is probably the other side of my life, outside of design. We’ve been dating since October 6, 2005. We have our ups and downs. Most of our downs was due to our distance. We spent most of our relationship in a long-distance relationship. They say long-distance relationships don’t last outside of a year. Well, I guess we’re the exception. We have a tolerance for things though. My relationship evolves everyday into something different. I can’t explain it accurately, but we’re constantly changing. There’s been very few times in our relationship, when things were at a stand still. We’re constantly becoming something new; but I don’t mind at all.

Even when we were not dating or taking a break, we were still best friends. We talked for 12+ hours a day. We spend a sickening amount of time together. In the world’s eyes, we’re probably way too young to get married. In the world’s eyes, we’re probably a mess. They’re right. We are a mess. I guess that’s how we’re still in one piece. We both have our battle scars; but we’re in it for the long run.

Music

Music and I have an on and off relationship. We recently reconciled after a year of legal separation. I am very picky about the music I listen to. The older I get, the stranger my music seems to be. I have been a music addict for years. I would record music videos on VHS and play them back. I still have a few of those old tapes. The first CD I ever bought with my own money was Will Smith’s MIAMI. (LOL!) I try to keep and ear for different music, especially music from different cultures. Right now I am discovering many new artists. You should probably stalk me on Last.Fm to find out what I’m listening to.

Blog

I lost my blogging virginity in the Winter of 2004. Since then, I’ve owned/operated over ten types of blogs on various blogging platform. However, this site is my baby. It’s been on the back burner once or twice (our three times..) but I still love it. I tell everyone who wants to know about blogging, that this is my first baby. I named her, nourished her, dressed her, and shared her with the world. She’s growing up so fast. She’ll be three years-old before I know it. Blogging is just another way for be to express how I feel and to share what I love.  It’s an extension of my designing and my writing combined into one. It’s hard to describe blogging’s place in my life other than it’s become a necessity. It’s how I feed out my emotions in some aspects. I wouldn’t do without it.

Thanks to Gaia09, I’ve finally changed the visual style on my desktop. I also got some new Rainmeter widgets and a new wallpaper. I absolutely adore it. Gaia 09 has been wonderful!

My Blackberry Storm got a new look as well. I was using an old Tiffany’s theme I had for a while, but I’m really enjoying this bDroid Storm Reloaded theme. It’s animated and the icons are cute. It’s different from the standard bottom dock theme, which is hard to find for a free BlackBerry 9500+ theme. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Since I forgot to mention it yesterday, I made another trip to the library. The top three books are: The Joy Luck Club, The Kite Runner, and Digging To America. The bottom four are a few books on interior design that I will be posting about soon, so stay tuned. There’s some amazing rooms in those books. I can’t wait to fully study through them. I completed The Kite Runner and I’m halfway through The Joy Luck Club. Amazing books so far. I hope to complete The Joy Luck Club over the weekend so I can get through Digging To America next week. I want to put a hold on Domino: The Book of Decorating. It’s an interior designer must have!

I’ve been searching for a proper to-do app for months. I heard of Remember The Milk before but I never gave it a second thought. I decided to download the app, Remember The Task, which is an Adobe air application for Remember The Milk. I love it! It’s so organized and wonderful. I’ll definitely be using RTM from now on.

I recently discovered artist, Vienna Teng. Her voice and music are wonderful. I’ve been indulging myself into her entire discography today. She’s quickly become a favorite.

David and I finally finished The Curious Case of Benjamin Button late Wednesday night. It was wonderful! I watched half of it earlier in the year but couldn’t commit due to technological issues. It was worth the wait. I loved every minute of it. I’m thinking of getting the book on my next library journey.

I found illustrator’s Julia Rothman’s portfolio this week, and fell in love. Her work is wonderful, all of it! If you want to be inspired, definitely take a look. I may feature her in a post in the near future so be on the look out!

Gossip Girl actress, Leighton Meester, dropped a style bomb on the red (err…green) carpet at the Teen Choice Awards on Monday. I am in love with her shoes. If I had $1000 to spare, I would buy them to be married in. They’re gorgeous. Her entire look is fun and flirty. I don’t usually give teen idols a second glance, but she looked gorgeous.

I haven’t written one of these posts since April so bear with me. I think I have a lot to be happy about this week so let me share them with you.

Benton Modern Display is a gorgeous font designed by Dyana Weissman and Richard Lipton. I cannot wait to own it. It’s just a typographic orgasm waiting to happen.

Natalie Jost released a free pattern earlier this week entitled Motherhood. It’s gorgeous. I’m not a mother but it’s a pretty nice pattern to say the least.

Fefe Dobson is set to release her third studio album, Joy, this September. I am excited! It’s been over four years since Sunday Love’s misfortunate un-release. I am very annoyed that Jordin Sparks is covering “Don’t Let It Go To Your Head” since her version sounds like crap, but whatever. I don’t like Jordin Sparks anyway. LOL

Wired Thinking is slowly coming along. The demand is high right now so David’s been working on full-time. We’re still in need of a few more editors, but we’re making our way. It’s going to be phenomenal when it launches.

Afternoon rains are wonderful. It’s becoming really hot in the days and the only relief I get is afternoon thunderstorms. Thunderstorms have their bad sides, but I can’t complain when they’re cooling me down. I’m still getting accustomed to this Florida heat.

I’ve been taking time to get back into writing. It’s working out pretty well. I guess that’s why I don’t mind blogging so frequently. It gives me practice and gets me back into habit. They do say the only way to get better at writing is to write, write, and write some more. I hope it pays off for me.

Oh wow, there’s not many words that I can say right now. King of pop, Michael Jackson, 50, has died  today of cardiac arrest. I can’t put into words how much of a role Michael Jackson played in my childhood. My grandmother was a very huge fan, from buying his records to his movies, she loved his music. Her love of his music was passed down to my mother and to me as well. They fortunately attended one of his concerts in the late 80s before I was born. From learning this at a young age, one of my dreams was to attend one of his concerts.

I always was intrigued when I watched his concerts on video how many people would attend. I was intrigued to see women crying, people holding lighters, and screaming. I always thought how culd one person have such an impact on thousands of people. Moonwalker was my favorite movie, before the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie of course. I enjoyed listening to Smooth Criminal on repeat for hours. I attempted to Moonwalk and failed many times. I was a pretty hardcore fan before the age of ten.

As I got older, many artists entered my musical tastes, but no one was better than Michael Jackson. He just put out hit after hit. I would joke around with school friends that the world would end if Michael Jackson died. We all came to an agreement that if he died, we would drive to whereever and attend his funeral. I guess I never believed it would be true one day, or that that day would be today. As much as a Michael Jackson fan that I am, I believe a part of me is glad that he gets to rest from this busy life. Whether his death will cause people to finally leave him alone or even more stuff to come up is unknown at this point, but nobody can deny this man was a great talent.

He changed the music industry. He pushed through the music industry as an African-American powerhouse. His talents in music and dancing have influenced many artists over the past thirty years. His impact on the music industry is just beyond words. I know many people are in mourning. I feel for his family and the loss of their younger brother and son. I just don’t much more to say about such a wonderful artist. He will surely be missed. I’m breaking out albums as I type this. I’ll miss him greatly.
